THE MESSAGE

Sheep Know the Voice

John 10:1–5, 27–30

CORE TRUTH

In a world screaming with rival claims and counterfeit shepherds, the sheep of Christ possess a super-rational capacity: they recognize the true Shepherd's voice. They do not follow strangers; they flee from them. Our security rests not on our own strength, but on the voice that calls us and the hand that holds us.

“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.” — John 10:27–28

1. A Pen Full of Strange Voices

The sheepfold of this world is crowded and loud. Thieves, robbers, and hired hands constantly call out, trying to mimic the Shepherd. But the sheep remain unresponsive to the cadence of legalism, self-reliance, or false promises.

2. He Calls His Own Sheep by Name

He does not address us as an anonymous herd. He calls His own sheep by name. This intimate, personal summons breaks through the static of the crowd, awakening our hearts to follow His specific lead.

3. He Walks Ahead of Them

Our Shepherd never drives us from behind with a whip; He walks ahead of us. Every path of suffering, trial, or green pasture has already been trodden by His feet. We only follow where He has first gone.

4. Held — And Never Snatched

The promise is absolute: 'No one will snatch them out of my hand.' We are doubly secure, held fast in the grip of both the Son and the Father. Our salvation is anchored in almighty power, not our fragile grasp.

How Great Is Our God

CHRIS TOMLIN • JESSE REEVES • ED CASH

VERSE 1

The splendor of the King, clothed in majesty Let all the earth rejoice, all the earth rejoice He wraps Himself in light, and darkness tries to hide And trembles at His voice, and trembles at His voice

CHORUS

How great is our God, sing with me How great is our God, and all will see How great, how great is our God

VERSE 2

And age to age He stands, and time is in His hands Beginning and the End, Beginning and the End The Godhead, three in one, Father, Spirit, Son The Lion and the Lamb, the Lion and the Lamb

BRIDGE

Name above all names, Worthy of all praise My heart will sing, How great is our God

CLASSIC HYMN

How Great Thou Art

Verse 1

O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder Thy power throughout the universe displayed

Chorus

Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee How great Thou art, how great Thou art Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee How great Thou art, how great Thou art!

Verse 2

When through the woods, and forest glades I wander And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur And hear the brook, and feel the gentle breeze

Verse 3

And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing He bled and died to take away my sin

Verse 4

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart Then I shall bow, in humble adoration And then proclaim: "My God, how great Thou art!"

NOW WORSHIPPING

The Blood

VERSE 1

Shadows fade before the light
Every chain is broken wide
By the power of Your sacrifice
We are raised to life

CHORUS

Oh the blood of Jesus
Washes white as snow
Oh the grace that freed us
We will praise alone

VERSE 2

At the cross where mercy reigned
Love took on our guilt and shame
Perfect savior, crown of thorns
Hope is now reborn

BRIDGE

It is finished, it is done
Death is swallowed in the Son
Hallelujah, victory
Flowing down to set us free

CLOSING SONG

At The Altar

VERSE 1

Draw me close, I will not fear
In Your presence, heaven is here
Laying down my heavy load
At the start of this narrow road

CHORUS

Here at the altar, I surrender all
Hearing Your Spirit, answering Your call
Out of the darkness, into Your light
Jesus my Savior, my strength and my might

VERSE 2

Leave behind the shame and pain
Washed clean in the pouring rain
All my doubts are swept away
In the light of a brand new day

BRIDGE

I give it all to You
Make my spirit new
Purify my heart
Right here where I start

OUTRO

At the altar...
I surrender all.
I am home.

THE MESSAGE

Sheep Know the Voice

CORE TRUTH: The Shepherd does not scream to get our attention. He speaks in a gentle whisper, requiring us to quiet the noise and draw close enough to hear His heart.

01

The Personal Connection

He calls His own sheep by name. Spiritual hearing is active, intimate, and designed specifically for your life path.

02

The Discerning Ear

The sheep follow Him because they recognize His voice. We must intentionally filter out modern distractions to stay tuned to His frequency.

03

The Safe Boundary

They will never follow a stranger. Spiritual discernment acts as an intuitive defense, prompting an automatic warning when deception speaks.

04

The Promised Guide

He goes ahead of them. The Shepherd never commands us to walk where He has not already pioneered and secured the path.

“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”

— JOHN 10:27
